It’s been some time since I wrote a newsletter to my clients. The year rapidly gained momentum, and I found myself prioritising consulting while also satisfying my yearning to learn more, particularly with regards to the meaning of true wisdom, whereby I found myself studying the pre-Socratic philosophers all the way to the modern day philosophers of wisdom.
However, as 2021 draws to a close, I would love to pause and thank you – my clients – for giving me the opportunity to consult with you.
Having had the chance to help clients through a vast array of personal and professional challenges, I would love to share a little about the types of challenges that people face. I hope it will inspire you to never give up on living your purpose and overcoming your deep pains and burdens.
As I reflect, I also realise how each and every one of you have been my reflection in some way, teaching me as much as I have sought to teach you.
I remember one client who persevered in doing an enormous amount of inner work, refusing to settle for a mediocre relationship while facing the fear of being alone, the fear and guilt of hurting and breaking up with her partner for the reward of finding that one special relationship – all while repurposing her profession into a national business! This paid off. She endured both pain and pleasure in the pursuit of her personal and professional vision.
Another client was labelled by others ‘’addicted’’ to a pastime/hobby, neglecting work and, at times, being perceived as reckless with her finances for the sake of this ‘’hobby’’. Now, she is well on her way to growing an international business out of that so-called “distracting addiction”, doing what she loves each and every day, and getting paid to do it!
I remember, too, the client who carried immense pain and anger towards an absent parent who struggled with an addiction to prescription medication. It was a great privilege to watch this client transform their anger and hatred into love for the course their life has taken.
I remember another client, deeply conflicted with a sibling within their work environment, feeling unappreciated and apprehensive about the future. This client took the time – slowly, thoroughly and methodically – to do the inner work and to realise an inner- and outer transformation.
Then there was a young man grieving the loss of his dad, who had passed due to COVID-19. Guiding him through his grief towards a transformed state of mind and towards a new paradigm of thinking about loss. I know he can now dedicate himself fully to his musical career, and influence he desires to have.
Finally, there was the client who took the time to understand what really drives her, what her purpose is, and why her previous ignorance of this purpose had led her into a severe depression. Today, she loves, honors, and accepts who she is, acknowledging her unique gifts and the role she plays in serving others within the context of her highest values.
Everything is dissolvable. It just takes a commitment to do the inner work, as a result of which your outer world will transform!
In my ongoing study of wisdom, I would love to share one of my deepest insights with you, particularly as we go into the festive season, where there may be times that you feel obligated to be with friends or family members you would rather not spend time with…
The highest level of consciousness, the highest level of true mindfulness, I believe, is the law of reflection and transparency. Whenever you find yourself judging another, take a moment to ask yourself: where and when have you have done the same thing you are judging in them? Who has seen you doing this thing? Don’t stop until you can see that you yourself have demonstrated the very same action in your own unique way and that others have seen you do it.
Through this simple exercise I wish you a mindful and harmonious festive season
